We Cannot Afford Alexis Sanchez

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has suggested the club cannot pay the kind of salary that Alexis Sanchez is reportedly demanding, while adding that he is not aware of any move for the Arsenal man.

Sanchez, 28, has been heavily linked with a summer move to Bayern and is reportedly seeking wages of £300,000-a-week.

But Hoeness has told kicker that Bayern are not willing to pay such an amount in order to attract star players to the club.

Asked about his club’s interest in Sanchez, Hoeness said: “I’m not involved in operational business. [Bayern CEO] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hasn’t approached me, therefore the link with him doesn’t seem to be very strong.”

Asked about escalating prices in football, he added: “The salaries being talked about up front of over €20 million [a year] are definitely an amount that isn’t feasible for FC Bayern.”

Bayern have been seen as Sanchez’s most likely destination if Arsenal are to sell the forward, who only has one year left on his contract but has so far refused to sign a new deal.

However, the Bundesliga club’s stance could increase the chances of Sanchez staying at the Emirates Stadium — even if it is just to run out the final year of his contract.

Manchester City have also been widely linked with Sanchez, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he will not sell his star player to a Premier League rival.
